Integrating Images Pencil Crayon Project

image1The Integrating Images Pencil Crayon Project required us to include a magazine piece and make it look like it belongs. The goal was to unify the drawing, and to try to hide the magazine piece.

Throughout this project, I learned that experimentation is crucial in order to make an image belong. Mixing colours, whether analogous, complimentary, or simply adding black or white, can really make the difference between a bad, and perfect match. Good colour matching makes for a balanced image and a low contrast between the magazine piece and the paper.

The artistic elements of my drawing bring the image together due to successful colours, texture, and overall space and balance. Before I decided to add Dory, I was not planning on using any blue, but after adding Dory, I knew I needed to add blue in order to unify the drawing and make her look like she belongs. I repeated the wavy look of the tail in the seaweed and hair in order to help unify.

GH Reflection #2

I decided to make my second Genius Hour project on red pandas. I chose this subject because I wanted to learn more about Red Pandas and how they live and function. I learned many things such as the fact that Red Pandas are the only true pandas. I also learned that red pandas are very social animals, they are very playful and love humans. This helped people around me because I raised awareness about this adorable endangered species. I tried to show that these small fur balls actually really do need our help. Their habitats are destroyed and they are brought into zoos, which to be honest, aren’t that hard to escape from. Unlike my last GH, I was a lot more specific on my facts and memorized most of my presentation. I was very confident while presenting and was very sure of myself. Next GH I will find a way to help animals and the environment, I will speak about natural reserves and the hazards of pollution to help animals and nature. I would like to get everyone to be aware of their surroundings and how they live.

Media Impact On Culture

Have you ever been told something such as “All Canadians are sooooo nice!” or “Like, all Americans carry guns around.” and other statements like these?

These are stereotypes.

Some of these stereotypes are very insulting, while others can be quite accurate. Many stereotypes are spread through the media. How? Have you ever watched television? Or seen pictures of others on the internet? Have you ever seen an advertisement about specific cultures? These are often related to stereotypes.

Stereotypes relate to culture or to places and gender.

For example:

Person 1: Oh you’re Canadian? Do you know So and So

Canadian: Ummmm no… Canada is really big you know…

Many people tend to think that all Canadians know each other, yet never question other countries. The thing is, Canada is huge, and it has 32,000,000 people! We may have less people than the US but we remain a larger country. These kinds of stereotypes are spread through some commercials and movies where people can go from province to province and have someone to meet up with, however, this is not a true fact.

Also, stereotypes relating to Africa are that everyone is poor, not everyone is! Here in Dakar, there are many rich people here in Dakar with large houses and enough money for everyone to live in harmony. These stereotypes are spread through commercials asking for donations to help poor children without food. This isn’t everywhere, it is true in some places, but media can send stereotypes which really influence or change how people think of certain cultures.

Don’t believe everything the media gives you, because in the end, you could insult someone dearly, and no one wants that.

Feeling Like an Artist (Major Blog Post Assignment)

Dashing Days. Coloured Pencil Love. Photograph. Dashing Days. Dashing Days. n.d. Jan 11 2016.

For many people, art is a great sense of relief. Some like to draw in a silent room with the simple light of their desks to illuminate them, while others prefer to draw in their bedroom sprawled out on their beds while music roars through the room. The way you draw and the materials you draw with can reflect on your personality.

Rochette, Kallie-Ann. Warning Howl. n.d. Pen/Coloured Pencil on Paper. Personal Collection.

Some of the materials which are often used are:

  • Pencil Crayons/Coloured Pencils (Regular, Soft, Watercolour)
  • Charcoal
  • Sketch Pencil Gradient
  • Pastels (Oil/Dry)
  • Paint (Acrylic, Watercolour, Oil, Spray)
  • Crayons/Wax Crayons
  • Markers
  • Water Based Markers (Sharpies and other permanent markers)

There are two main types of people when it comes to art. Neat and Messy. Personally, I am a messy artist. I will sprawl out on my bed while listening to music and will surround myself in materials. Most of the time, by the time i have completed a work, I have pencil crayons or markers all around me along with eraser shards.

Most of the time, people who work through messy environments tend to have a free mind and a loud personality. They are not the most organized and only truly focus if they enjoy what they are doing.

On a scale from 1-10, how neat are you?

I’d say I’m a 4, everything is in reach and easy to find. I simply end up surrounded in everything I’ve used.

This unit I followed many people related to my Genius Hour presentation including @Saveredpandas62 who was of great help to me while preparing for my project on red pandas. The gave me many interesting facts about their behavior and playful attitude which really helped tie up the rest of my information. I also got a lot of help from @_redpandafacts, this got me more technical information such as their food, habitat and ability to adapt. This helped me with my project because it informed me on everything I needed to know about red pandas, they were very specific about their answers, telling me about how they preferred artificial sweeteners rather than natural sweeteners and how they had a lot in common with the Giant Panda even though they were not related. My conversations often continued as they followed me back and we started talking more, they would ask me if I needed any more interesting facts or simply send me many at a time, which was very cool. I would like to thank all the people that have helped me through my project and tell them that they were very helpful.

Poutine & Tim Hortons (Canadian Food)

In Canada, there are quite a few famous foods, I will focus on a French Canadian food along with a well known Canadian Restaurant.

First off, since I come from Quebec, I will introduce you to a tradition. Poutine.

Harveys poutine

This specific poutine comes from a fast food restaurant named Harvey’s. This restaurant serves many other foods but poutine is by far the best. It is a tradition from Quebec, composed of french fries, squeaky white cheese curds, and brown gravy.

And then there’s Tim Hortons. Any Canadian who has never been to Timmy’s is not Canadian. At Tim Hortons, they sell coffee, amazing hot chocolate, donuts, timbits (donut holes), chili, soup, sandwiches and much more. Tim Hortons is also a Canadian restaurant and is known by almost every Canadian. Every year, Tim Hortons organizes a “roll the rim, roll to win” which is an event with special cups to give you a chance to win a prize. Some prizes are money, Tim Hortons cards, Cars and sometimes a free coffee or donut. Tim Hortons has always been a huge part of my childhood, and I miss it so much.

I can assure you that making this post was quite hard, I miss home, and the food.

Peace out!

Death Of A Young Heart

paul-rochette

This is my uncle, his name is Paul and he died at the age of 36 in a mining accident. My uncle was someone who loved to bring joy and laughter to the people around him. He was the kind of person who would always be smiling, he has done crazy things, such as putting peanut butter all over mine and my brother’s faces and pinning us down as our dogs licked the peanut butter off our face. I have many amazing stories about him and everyone else in my family could agree. Paul Rochette was an inspiration and will forever be in my heart. I miss you uncle Paul.

How Wolves Change Rivers (Genius Hour)

For my genius hour project, I chose the subject of how wolves change rivers. This subject was very interesting to research, I got to learn a lot about wolves themselves and Yellowstone National Park. The project could have been a little more developed, but in general I had a lot of fun making this project. I learned that grey wolves usually hunt in packs of 3-30! And that these packs are formed of an alpha, a luna(female alpha) and grown pups. Overall, I think my project was really fun and interesting to look at.

How to Succeed

There are many ways to succeed in school. People have different opinions on what success is, this is what I will show you.

School is created to prepare you for your life. You must succeed in school in order to get a good job and have a good lifestyle. It is easy to succeed, all you have to do is follow some quick, easy steps.

  1. Be attentive. Pay attention in class! Try to understand the subject and listen to what your teacher and classmates have to say. Listening to others can help with your learning.
  2. Work hard. If you don’t succeed in the beginning, don’t just give up! Keep trying and eventually you’ll understand and get it right. If that doesn’t work, try step 3.
  3. Ask questions! If you don’t understand, don’t be afraid to ask a teacher or a friend for help.
  4. Find what helps you concentrate! Music is often something which helps music_017people concentrate, if you want to, listen to music as you do your homework.writing-pencil
